Member Appreciation/Bring a Friend

Wine and Cheese

Friday September 27, 2019

7:00 - 9:30 pm

Fall, although not the beginning of our calendar year is a time where we leave the summer headiness of warmer weather and holidays for shorter days and the beauty of fall colours.  During the fall we might consider new beginnings or a recommitment to previous endeavours, including participation in the Calgary Jung Society.

“Why Jung…a sliding consciousness is characteristic of modern man.”

CW. Vol 8. Par 397-415

Come and join us for the first event of the year in which Dr. Chris Wilkes, one of our local analysts, explores the relevance of Jung in today’s world.  The society in which we live is characterized by its busyness and its focus on extroversion, wealth, prestige and quick fixes. At some point, these can no longer serve us as we feel our true natures and selves pushing up from our repressed and suppressed unconscious. Our current culture has effectively minimized the role of the arts and humanities. Dr. Wilkes recognizes that nature, art, myths and dreams link the world of the ego with the world of the transpersonal, innate spiritual experience of the self. He also questions how we can bring the ease and wonder of childhood into adulthood and use that to create more meaningful lives. Jung’s partial answer to exploring this connection was to hold the tension between the opposites as this will lead to a symbol, “a living third thing” which is intermediate between the mystery of life and the ego’s life struggles. In this lecture, Dr. Wilkes will consider Jung’s approach to depth psychology, which promotes our indwelling by learning to be  aware and honour the experiences that give us that sense of connection between our “ego and soul” with both aliveness and meaning.

We will begin the evening with a wine and cheese social and have time for the lecture and a question period. There will also be further information about upcoming lectures, workshops and courses currently scheduled for the 2019/2020 year. Perhaps, you will be the winner of a door prize!

This event is free for members and a guest. However, current registration is required. Please, renew your membership in order to register on-line.  Registering now as a member allows you to sign up for each 2019/2020 event at a reduced rate.

The mission and vision of the current board of the Calgary Jung Society is to educate a community of people who have an interest in Jungian thought and its current application to spiritual life (soul), life in general, and to community. The Board of the Calgary Jung Society strives to be a conduit between the individual member and our collective journey. We strive to be a board with a creative spirit in planning for the society, but we also tap into the creativity of individual society members. We share a creative responsibility for pursuing wholeness.

Indeed, we are a caring community exploring deep concepts of soul with like-minded individuals, in a safe and trusting environment. Our members are committed to their own personal work, but also committed to and involved in the welfare of the society.
