Relationships Under Scrutiny - Workshop

1) What effect does media have on our relationships today?

2) How does the “fatal flaw” play our in our ordinary lives?

3) Why is it so difficult to transcend the reflexive behaviours that we have absorbed from our families, culture and society?

“Whenever an inner situation in not conscious it happens outside as fate”.

Aion CW9ii para126

This workshop will focus on reading the tale of Oedipus with the help of 14 volunteers.  This will highlight the unseen mythic forces from our tribe, family or psyche that can influence our behaviors even though we may rush off in the opposite direction to avoid our fate. Indeed “Hubris” is often described as our fatal flaw….the hamartia….our one sided identification with a talent, attitude or physical attribute results in a one sided development of our personality and destiny. This tragic tale from the House of Thebes illustrates Oedipus rise to fame and fortune followed by his inevitable descent into pathos and suffering when the truth comes out.

Reference. Oedipus the king Sophocles 420 BCE.

By Ian Johnston, Malaspina University- College. Nanaimo BC. Aug 2004.
